A safety system for underwater propulsion devices operated by scuba divers
includes sensors that detect the vertical velocity of the device. If the
descent or ascent is greater than 60 feet per minute, the system reduces
the vertical speed by changing the pitch of the device or reducing the
speed of the device. By regulating the vertical speed, the device can be
used safely with less chance of injury to the scuba diver due to rapid
compression or decompression.
