A process for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon feed comprises at least two steps with intermediate stripping of the effluent from the first step with pressurized hydrogen substantially free of impurities which are undesirable for the catalyst for the second step, in particular to eliminate part of the H.sub.2S formed, each step being carried out with a hydrogen recycle loop that is exclusive to that step.
