A system and method for providing access to animal food utilizes
identification tags on domestic animals, generally attached to a collar.
The identification tag generates a signal that is detected by a receiver
mounted on an enclosed food container. When the receiver detects a
pre-selected acceptable signal from an animal, it activates a motor that
causes a movable portion of the container to move to an open position. If
the signal is no longer detected by the receiver, it activates the motor
to move the movable portion of the container to a closed position. If the
receiver detects a signal from an identification tag that is not one of
the pre-selected signals, it activates the motor to move the movable
portion of the container to a closed position.
