A volume scan of an examination area of a patient is carried out, with the injection of a contrast medium, at a scanning speed in a scanning direction in order to reconstruct one or more images of the examination area. In the method, the scanning speed is adapted to the propagation speed of the contrast medium in the scanning direction. The method permits the contrast medium requirement to be reduced in the case of CT examinations with the administration of contrast medium.
