A method of automatically scoring intravascular calcium. The delineation
of a body surface is detected in a tomographic image produced by an X-ray
CT system. Images of bones are removed from a field encircled with the
delineation of the body surface. The delineations of blood vessels are
detected in the tomographic image having the bone images removed
therefrom. Calcium is scored using the tomographic image having the bone
images removed therefrom. Only the scores of intravascular calcium
obtained from the fields inside the delineations of the blood vessels are
displayed.
