The present invention provides a method of treating diseases or disorders benefiting from inactivating or down regulating the activity of the capsaicin receptor in a mammal by inhibiting the activity of the capasaicin receptor. The present invention also provides a method of treating obesity and obesity-related diseases and disorders in a mammal by inhibiting the activity of the capasaicin receptor.
