Described herein is a method for reducing levels of the harmful metabolic
waste product of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), homocysteine, and provide
vitamin and other nutritional co-factors that reduce the production of
homocysteine and either re-methylate homocysteine back to
S-adenosylmethionine, or facilitate its conversion downstream to
cystathione. The method of the invention may be achieved by administering
5-methyl tetrahydrofolate, methylcobalamin, and one or more compounds
selected from the group consisting of betaine, pyridoxal-5-phosphate,
N-acetyl-cysteine, and other cofactors.
