An access portal for a pet carrier allows a pet owner to insert a hand
into the pet carrier but prevents the animal contained therein from
escaping through the access portal. The access portal may be blocked by
an elastic barrier with an aperture that stretches to allow the pet owner
to gain access to the interior of the pet carrier. Doors covering the
access portal on the inside and/or the outside of the carrier may also be
used instead of, or in conjunction with the elastic barrier.
