The present invention relates to a floor mat which can prevent scuffs on
the heels of a user's footwear. The floor mat includes at least a first
layer of material; a scuff-resistant portion provided on the first layer;
and a glide mechanism which moves the scuff-resistant portion on the
first layer when a force is applied to the scuff-resistant portion. The
glide mechanism may include an elastic portion connected to the
scuff-resistant portion and to the first layer, a backing layer connected
to the elastic portion; and a base portion connected to the backing
layer. The base portion may be disposed on a second layer, the second
layer which is disposed beneath the first layer. Further, the first layer
may have an opening such that the base portion which is connected to the
second layer, is accessible through the first layer. The scuff-resistant
portion is made of plush felt.
