A process for making a solid oral dosage form that has a therapeutic
compound (e.g., a poorly soluble and/or poorly compactible therapeutic
compound) and a polymer. The process is accomplished by the use of an
extruder. A transient plasticizer, e.g., a liquefied gas such as
supercritical carbon dioxide, is added to facilitate processing of the
materials. The transient plasticizer can serve to lower the viscosity of
the mixture being processes and/or enhance the solubility of the
therapeutic compound.
