Disclosed is a polymer electrolyte composition for a rechargeable lithium battery including a multifunctional monomer represented by formula 1, a polymer initiator, a non-aqueous organic solvent, and a lithium salt: ##STR00001## where A is one represented by one of formulae 1a, 1b, or 1c; ##STR00002## where n is an integer of 1 to 10; R.sub.1 to R.sub.7 are the same or are independently selected from H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyls, and C.ident.N; and X is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.20 aliphatic or aromatic carbon, or polyether.
