This image-taking apparatus comprises an image-pickup element which converts an object image into an image signal and a controller which determines an exposure time of the image-pickup element, wherein the controller sets a maximum value of an exposure time of the image-pickup element in accordance with a size of an area which satisfies a predetermined condition for a distance of the object.
