Nicotinamides and isonicotinamides, used in the preparation of anti-TB drugs i.e. isoniazid and as an intermediate of vitamin B.sub.12 are prepared from cyanopyridines and nicotinamides. Catalysts useful for the preparation of nicotinamide and isonicotinamide.
