The present invention relates to a method of producing an optically active
1-aryl-2-fluoro-substituted ethylamine compound of the formula [2] or a
salt thereof by hydrogenolysis of an optically active secondary amine
compound of the formula [1] or a salt thereof in the presence of a
transition metal catalyst of Group VIII[Chem. 59] ##STR00001## [where Ar
represents an aryl group; n represents an integer of 1 or 2; and *
represents an asymmetric carbon] [Chem. 60] ##STR00002## [where Ar
represents an aryl group; n represents an integer of 1 or 2; and *
represents an asymmetric carbon].
