The notification rule includes conditional tests to determine whether to transmit a notification message, determine the medium for communicating the notification message, and determine a recipient of the notification message. Patient information including the state of the patient through a patient workflow process is received. The notification message including the patient information is transmitted in a communication medium in accordance with the at least one notification rule.
