A modular prosthesis that may be implanted in a highly minimally invasive
manner. Specifically, the modular prosthesis may include a neck and an
anchor. Both the neck and the anchor are configured to be inserted and
connected together through a lateral aspect of a long bone adjacent to
the proximal end of the long bone. In one exemplary embodiment, the neck
includes a body having a head end, configured for attachment to another
prosthetic component, such as a corresponding articulating component, and
an aperture extending therethrough. The anchor may be sized for receipt
within the aperture formed in the neck. Additionally, the anchor may be
configured such that the anchor engages the walls forming the aperture in
the neck to secure the components together.
