Methods, combinations and compositions for relieving or preventing the effects of stress are provided. In particular, combinations and compositions comprising cis-3-hexen-1-ol, trans-2-hexenal and .alpha.-pinene, articles of manufacture impregnated with the combination or composition and methods of relieving stress by exposure to the combination or composition are described.
