Compounds of the invention, such as compounds of formula (I): ##STR00001## where n, m, A, B, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are defined herein, are useful as modulators of the activity of liver X receptors. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds and methods of using the compounds are also disclosed.
