The present invention relates to quinobenzoxazines analogs having the general formula: ##STR00001## and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, esters and prodrugs thereof; wherein V, A, X, Z, W, U and R.sup.5 are substituents. The present invention also relates to methods for using such compounds, such as in screening and for inducing apoptosis.
