This invention relates to optically active substances of tenatoprazole, (+) and (-)-5-methoxy-2-{(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]sulfiny- l}-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine. The compound and pharmaceutical compositions thereof are useful for anti-ulcer agent.
