A locking data cable (24) is disclosed. The data cable (24) includes a data plug (26) and an associated lock (32). When the data plug (26) is engaged with a data port (16) of a data storage device (12), an actuator (38) of the locking data cable (24) may be used to change the lock (32) from an unlocked position to a locked position.
