The present invention relates to a system for two-stage blood dialysis of
a patient. In one embodiment, the system comprises a first filtration
device for receiving the blood from the patient and for producing a first
filtrate and processed blood. The system further comprises a second
filtration device for receiving the first filtrate and producing
replacement fluid and waste product. At least one of the first and second
filtration devices preferably comprises a Taylor vortex-enhanced blood
filtration device.
