The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Papaver plant named `Heartbeat` characterized by having an upright habit, with thick supporting stems, dark, glossy green foliage, large semi-double purple/maroon flowers, thick, glossy flower petals, that withstand the rigors of ultraviolet rays, rain, and wind and therefore flowers for a long period, and a vigorous growth habit.
