An image density in a predetermined section of an image represented by an
image signal is calculated on the basis of the image signal, and the
calculated image density is compared with the result of detection of a
density in the predetermined section of a toner image formed on the basis
of the image signal. Then, it is determined whether or not to perform a
density-adjusting process in which an image-density adjustment is
performed on the basis of correction pattern data. Thus, the density
adjustment is performed at a suitable timing while monitoring the density
of images formed in a normal image-forming operation.
