A method for determining an optimal inspection schedule for a structure is
described. The method includes determining a crack size distribution
table for the structure, determining a plurality of risk values, each
risk value for a different estimated usage hours of the structure and
based on said crack size distribution table, estimating a first
inspection interval based on a predetermined risk value threshold, and
determining a second inspection interval based on analyzing the rate of
increase of risk value and probability of detection of a crack in said
first inspection interval.
