The invention relates to methods and compositions for the treatment of
pruritis ani and other perianal disorders. There are currently few
treatments for these conditions, many of which have significant side
effects. The methods of the invention involve the administration, in a
cream or lotion of pregabalin, an anti-epileptic agent that has pain
relieving properties. This topical form of pregabalin may also include
the addition of other agents such as immunomodulators, antibiotics or
agents that enhance wound healing. This method may be useful as a new and
safe treatment for pruritis ani, skin conditions and other anorectal
disorders. Previous positive clinical experience suggests that this new
treatment is promising for these disorders.
