An exhaust gas purifying catalyst of the present invention has a substrate, and a catalyst layer formed on an inner wall of the substrate and composed of at least a single layer. The catalyst layer contains a carrier supporting noble metal. Further, a maximum height of profile of a surface of a top layer in the catalyst layer is not less than 2 .mu.m and not more than 50 .mu.m, and the top layer contains the carrier supporting noble metal.
