Compounds are provided having the formula (I) ##STR00001## wherein X for
each occurrence is N or C-A, and R, Y, A and n are as defined herein,
which compounds are dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitors and as such are
useful in treating diabetes and micro- and macrovascular complications of
diabetes, such as retinopathy, neuropathy, and nephropathy.A method for
treating diabetes and related diseases employing the above compounds is
also provided.
