The present invention relates to hair tonic compositions containing acteoside of formula (I) ##STR00001## as an active ingredient. The hair tonic composition of the invention has an excellent hair-growth promoting effect and it can be used to prevent alopecia; furthermore, it has a pleasant skin feeling.
