In a particular embodiment, a data storage device includes a non-volatile storage media adapted to store data and a measurement circuit adapted to measure at least one performance parameter related to the storage device during operation. The data storage device further includes logic coupled to the measurement circuit and adapted to predict a failure associated with at least a portion of the non-volatile storage media when the measured performance parameter exceeds a threshold value and to optionally perform corrective action.
