The present invention is concerned with novel thiazole 4-carboxyamide derivatives of the general formula (I) and with methods for the preparation thereof, which compounds are useful as metabotropic glutamate receptor antagonists: ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 are as defined in the specification.
