A method for treating a mammal comprises administering at least one of a gene, enzyme and pharmaceutical which modulates the concentration of iPLA.sub.2.beta. through transcriptional and/or translational regulation or effectively modulate the inhibition of iPLA.sub.2.beta. through calmodulin or derivatives thereof.
