The specification discloses a process for the production of olefins including ethylene, propylene and butenes from methyl bromide. In a chemical reaction methyl bromide is dehydrobrominated to the olefin and hydrogen bromide. The reaction is carried out at elevated temperatures, preferably in the range of 300.degree. C. to 500.degree. C. A catalyst comprising a zeolite may be used.
