A control panel configuration for a motor vehicle has a cross member that
extends transversely to the vehicle longitudinal direction and is
retained on fixed lateral construction structures. A control panel
provides coverage toward the vehicle interior, and a knee retainer has a
section for fastening the knee retainer to the cross member. A force
absorption section extends essentially in the direction of the knee of an
occupant. To reduce an intrusion of the control panel bottom parts, the
knee retainer can be a rod-shaped support element that is loaded
essentially longitudinally to its axis.
