Disclosed are nitro-sulfide dyes of formula (1), their salts, isomers,
hydrates and other solvates, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3,
independently from each other are hydrogen; C.sub.1-C.sub.20alkyl or
C.sub.1-C.sub.20alkoxy, which may be substituted by one or more
C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkoxy, halogen, --NH.sub.2,
mono-C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkylamino, di-C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkylamino, --NO2 or
hydroxy; C.sub.3-C.sub.6cycloalkyl; --C(O)H;
--C(O)--C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkyl; --C(O)OH; --C(O)O--C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkyl;
halogen; NO.sub.2; OH; SH; phenyl, which may be substituted by one or
more C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkyl, C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkoxy, halogen, --NH.sub.2,
mono-C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkylamino, di-C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkylamino, --NO.sub.2
or hydroxy; or a radical of formula (1a) --NR.sub.4R.sub.5, wherein
R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 independently from each other are hydrogen;
C.sub.1-C.sub.12alkyl, which may be substituted by one or more
C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkyl, C.sub.1-C.sub.5-alkoxy, hydroxy or --(CO)--H;
--(CO)--C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkyl; phenyl or phenyl-C.sub.1-C.sub.4alkyl,
wherein the phenyl moiety may be substituted by one or more
C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkyl, C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkoxy, halogen, --NH.sub.2,
mono-C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkylamino, di-C.sub.1-C.sub.5alkylamino, --NO.sub.2,
carboxy or hydroxy; or a radical of formula (2); wherein at least one of
the radicals R.sub.1, R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 is NO.sub.2; Y.sub.1 is
C.sub.1-C.sub.10alkylene; C.sub.5-C.sub.10cycloalkylene;
C.sub.5-C.sub.10arylene; or
C.sub.5-C.sub.10arylene-(C.sub.1-C.sub.10alkylene); Z1 is the direct
bond; formula (3); or a cationic biradical of a saturated, aromatic or
heteroaromatic group; Q.sub.1 is --C(O)--; --C(O)O--; --OCO--;
--N(R.sub.6)--X.sub.2--; --CON(R.sub.6)--; --(R.sub.6)NC(O)--; --O--;
--S--; --S(O)--; or --S(O).sub.2--; X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 independently
from each other are the direct bond; C.sub.1-C.sub.10alkylene;
C.sub.5-C.sub.10cycloalkylene; C.sub.5-C.sub.10arylene; or
C.sub.5-C.sub.10arylene-(C.sub.1-C.sub.10alkylene); and R.sub.6, R.sub.7
and R.sub.8 independently from each other are hydrogen;
C.sub.1-C.sub.14alkyl; C.sub.2-C.sub.14alkenyl; C.sub.6-C.sub.10aryl;
C.sub.6-C.sub.10aryl-C.sub.1-C.sub.10alkyl; or
C.sub.1-C.sub.10alkyl(C.sub.5-C.sub.10aryl); m is 1; or 2; U is hydrogen,
if m is 1; or the direct bond, if m is 2; with the proviso that the
method does not comprise contacting hair with an enzyme of the type of a
protein disulfidisomerase (EC 5.3.4.1). Further, the present invention
relates to novel sulfide compounds, compositions thereof, especially
comprising other dyes, and to processes for their preparation.
