There is provided a cleaning agent comprising a lactone represented by the following formula (1): ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 is an alkylene group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms.The cleaning agent is useful for cleaning an organic electroluminescence material, photosensitive resin, liquid crystal or wax.
