The present invention relates to a method of identifying calcium binding
sites in gamma-crystallin useful in calcium-based homeostasis for the
management of Cataract, said method comprising steps of isolating
gamma-crystallin from eye lens, studying binding of calcium to the
isolated protein by both direct and indirect methods, identifying Greek
key Motif as calcium-binding sites of the protein gamma crystallin with
the said protein binding 4-mol eq of calcium having dissociation constant
of 90 micromole.
