A process for the preparation of pigment compositions which give improved
ink flow is provided which comprises treating the pigment, during the
pigment synthesis, with a small amount of a long chain aliphatic amine.
The pigment compositions obtained can be used for preparing millbase inks
which due to their improved flow viscosity (rheology) at high
pigmentation can be easily handled as well as flexibly formulated, e.g. a
number of final printing inks for different ink applications can be
manufactured from a single millbase in a very economical manner. The
final inks are preferably used in packaging gravure printing processes.
