A new and distinct variety of Mentha canadensis (`Metolius`) is
characterized by its unique oil chemistry and flavor profile resembling
that of peppermint oil, and by its tolerance to Verticillium wilt
(Verticillium dahliae) and mint rust (Puccinia menthae). DNA
microsatellite marker analysis has shown that `Metolius` is a distinct
variety of M. canadensis.
