The invention describes a current generating cell device, which uses
concentration gradients to create the electric flux. The cell is
preferably defined by the use of a porous separator or bi-polar membrane
to effect ion separation. In addition, an ion-exchange resin or other
conductivity enhancement method may be present in one or both
compartments to enhance the ion flow characteristics. In addition, the
use of the ion-exchange resin or other conductivity enhancement method
may also be used in combination with conventional two-membrane systems.
