A honeycomb structure comprises a porous ceramic which is composed of several cells aligned across a cell wall longitudinally. The cell has either one end sealed. The gas permeability coefficient k of the cell wall is between about 0.5 .mu.m.sup.2 and about 1.5 .mu.m.sup.2.
