Disclosed is a formulation for the absorption of CO.sub.2, which comprises water, at least one CO.sub.2 absorption compound and a carbonic anhydrase as an activator to enhance the absorption capacity of the CO.sub.2 absorption compound. The invention also concerns the use of carbonic anhydrase, in a CO.sub.2 absorption solution to increase the CO.sub.2 absorption rate of such solution.
