The present invention relates to process for increased yield of the amino
acid arginine from bacterial cultures by employing strains that have been
genetically manipulated for both increased arginine biosynthesis and
increased level of the Escherichia coli protein YggA or a protein that is
substantially similar to Escherichia coli YggA. Two strains of this
invention have been deposited at MTCC, Chandigarh. The strains are
GJ4894/pHYD952 (MTCC 5127) and GJ4536/pHYD953 (MTCC 5128).
