Described are methods for preparing compositions that include the steps of (a) premixing a cationic guar gum in water; (b) adding a surfactant component to the premix of (a); (c) adding about 1 to about 3 weight % of salt to the mixture obtained in (b); (d) applying shear to the mixture obtained in (c) at a shear rate not exceeding about 20 sec.sup.-1 to form a spherulite composition; and (f) mixing an oil phase with the spherulite composition. Also included are compositions prepared by this process.
