Substituted biphenyls having glucagon receptor antagonistic activity.
Claimed compounds have the formula

wherein
R.sup.1a and R.sup.1b independently represent (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6) alkyl;
R.sup.2 represents (C.sub.1 -C.sub.10) alkyl or substituted (C.sub.1
-C.sub.10) alkyl wherein the substituents are independently from 1 to 3 of
--SR.sup.7 ; R.sup.7 represents phenyl, or substituted phenyl wherein the
substituents are independently 1-5 of halogen, trifluoromethyl, (C.sub.1
-C.sub.6) alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6) alkoxy, nitro, cyano, or hydroxyl;
R.sup.3 represents substituted (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6) alkyl wherein the
substituents are 1-2 hydroxyl groups; G represents a substituent selected
from the group consisting of halogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6) alkyl, and
OR.sup.4 wherein R.sup.4 is H or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6) alkyl; and y is 0 or
an integer of 1-3. Pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds
and methods of treatment of glucagon-mediated conditions by administering
such compounds are also claimed.

I residui esatti hanno il ## del ## STR1 di formula in cui R.sup.1a e R.sup.1b rappresentano indipendentemente (C.sub.1 - C.sub.6) l'alchile; R.sup.2 rappresenta (C.sub.1 - C.sub.10) alchilico o sostituito (C.sub.1 -) alchile C.sub.10 in cui i sostituenti sono indipendentemente 1 - 3 di -- SR.sup.7; R.sup.7 rappresenta il fenile, o il fenile sostituito in cui i sostituenti sono indipendentemente 1-5 di alogeno, trifluoromethyl, (C.sub.1 -) alchile C.sub.6, (C.sub.1 - C.sub.6) alcossi, nitro, ciano, o idrossile; R.sup.3 rappresenta (C.sub.1 - C.sub.6) l'alchile sostituito in cui i sostituenti sono 1-2 gruppi dell'idrossile; Il G rappresenta un sostituente scelto dall'alogeno consistente del gruppo, (C.sub.1 - C.sub.6) alchile ed OR.sup.4 in cui R.sup.4 è H o (C.sub.1 - C.sub.6) alchile; e y è 0 o un numero intero di 1-3. Le composizioni farmaceutiche che contengono tali residui e metodi del trattamento delle circostanze glucagon-mediate amministrando tali residui inoltre sono esatte.
