An apparatus and method for the collection of respirable particles and concentration of such particles into a small fluid volume. The apparatus captures and concentrates small (1-10 .mu.m) respirable particles into a sub-millileter volume of fluid. The method involves a two step operation, collection and concentration: wherein collection of particles is by a wetted surface having small vertical slits that act as capillary channels; and concentration is carried out by transfer of the collected particles to a small volume (sub-milliliter) container by centrifugal force whereby the particles are forced through the vertical slits and contact a non-wetted wall surface, and are deflected to the bottom where they are contained for analysis, such as a portable flow cytometer or a portable PCR DNA analysis system.

Ein Apparat und eine Methode für die Ansammlung der atembaren Partikel und Konzentration solcher Partikel in ein kleines flüssiges Volumen. Der Apparat nimmt gefangen und konzentriert kleine (mu.m 1-10) atembare Partikel in ein Vor-millileter Volumen Flüssigkeit. Die Methode bezieht einen Betrieb, die Ansammlung und die Konzentration mit zwei Schritten mit ein: worin Ansammlung Partikel durch eine naßgemachte Oberfläche ist, die kleine vertikale Schlitze hat, die als haarartige Führungen dienen; und Konzentration wird heraus durch Übertragung der gesammelten Partikel auf einen kleinen Behälter des Volumens (Vor-Milliliter) durch Zentrifugalkraft getragen, hingegen die Partikel durch die vertikalen Schlitze Zwangs sind und mit einer nicht-naßgemachten Wandoberfläche in Verbindung treten, und wird zur Unterseite, in der sie für Analyse enthalten werden, zu so als bewegliches Fluß cytometer oder zu einem beweglichen PCR DNA Analyse System abgelenkt.
