The invention relates to a method for reducing the computational overhead
of bicubic interpolation while still providing a similar level of
accuracy. The invention takes into account the fact that sampled points
surrounding a point whose value is to be determined have respective first,
second and third order effects on the calculated value. The invention
combines linear interpolation, ignoring points having a third order
effect, with cubic interpolation of points having a first and second order
effect to derive the value.
