The invention relates to a method for reducing the computational overhead of bicubic interpolation while still providing a similar level of accuracy. The invention takes into account the fact that sampled points surrounding a point whose value is to be determined have respective first, second and third order effects on the calculated value. The invention combines linear interpolation, ignoring points having a third order effect, with cubic interpolation of points having a first and second order effect to derive the value.
