The present invention relates to a process for preparing N-substituted 2-pyrazolin-5-ones of the formula I ##STR1## where R has the meaning given in claim 1, which comprises reacting a compound of the formula II ##STR2## where R, X and Y have the meanings given in claim 1, at elevated temperature with a molar excess of alkali metal hydroxide in an aqueous reaction medium and then adjusting the pH to pH.ltoreq.6 by adding an acid.

Die anwesende Erfindung bezieht auf einem Prozeß für das Vorbereiten von von N-Ersatz2-pyrazolin-5-ones des Formel I ## STR1 ##, in dem R die Bedeutung hat, die in Anspruch 1 gegeben wird, der das Reagieren eines Mittels des Formel II ## STR2 ## in dem R enthält, X und Y haben die Bedeutungen, die in Anspruch 1, bei erhöhter Temperatur mit einem molaren Überfluß des Alkalimetallhydroxids gegeben werden, in einem wäßrigen Reaktion Mittel und den pH auf pH.ltoreq.6 dann justieren, indem es eine Säure addiert.
