A method is provided for producing antimicrobial, antithrombogenic medical devices. The method employs an antimicrobial treatment process wherein an antimicrobial agent is dissolved in an appropriate solvent and the resulting solution is contacted with a portion of a medical device of interest. The antimicrobial treatment process is advantageously performed without the need for additional compounds to facilitate antimicrobial agent uptake into the device. The method further comprises an antithrombogenic treatment process wherein antithrombogenic agents or materials are applied or otherwise associated with at least some portion of the medical device.

Un método se proporciona para producir los dispositivos médicos antimicrobianos, antithrombogenic. El método emplea un proceso antimicrobiano del tratamiento en donde un agente antimicrobiano se disuelve en un solvente apropiado y la solución que resulta se entra en contacto con con una porción de un dispositivo médico del interés. El proceso antimicrobiano del tratamiento se realiza ventajoso sin la necesidad de compuestos adicionales de facilitar uptake antimicrobiano del agente en el dispositivo. El método más futuro abarca un proceso antithrombogenic del tratamiento en donde los agentes o los materiales antithrombogenic se aplican o se asocian de otra manera por lo menos a una cierta porción del dispositivo médico.
