A new fuel composition useful for catalytic fuel cells is made up of at least two components. The primary fuel component is a surface-active compound, such as methanol, that is a source of and acts to prevent unwanted decomposition of the auxiliary fuel. The auxiliary fuel is a hydrogen-containing inorganic compound with a high reduction potential, such as NaBH.sub.4, which acts as a highly reactive source of energy and serves to catalyze the catalytic oxidation of the primary fuel.

Una nueva composición del combustible útil para las células de combustible catalíticas se compone por lo menos de dos componentes. El componente primario del combustible es un compuesto tensoactivo, tal como metanol, que es una fuente de y actúa para prevenir la descomposición indeseada del combustible auxiliar. El combustible auxiliar es un compuesto inorgánico hidro'geno-que contiene con un alto potencial de la reducción, tal como NaBH.sub.4, que actúa como fuente altamente reactiva de la energía y sirve para catalizar la oxidación catalítica del combustible primario.
